FAQs

What makes a Nakiri knife better for vegetables than a standard chef knife?

A Nakiri knife has a completely flat cutting edge, allowing you to chop straight down without rocking. This creates ultra-clean cuts, prevents food from sticking together, and reduces bruising—especially helpful when prepping tender vegetables, leafy greens, and uniform slices for stir-fries or salads.

Is the VG-10 Damascus blade strong enough for tougher vegetables like potatoes or pumpkins?

Yesfor most firm vegetables. The VG-10 “super steel” core provides excellent toughness and edge retention, making it ideal for dense produce like carrots, potatoes, and beets. For extremely hard squash or pumpkin, use steady downward cuts and avoid twisting the blade. For very tough gourds, a heavier cleaver is recommended to protect the thin Damascus edge.

Does the resin and wood burl handle stay secure when chopping for long periods?

Absolutely. The octagonal resin-and-wood-burl handle provides a comfortable, anti-slip grip that supports a natural pinch hold. The handle’s shape distributes pressure evenly, reducing hand fatigue during repetitive chopping or batch prepping.

What types of vegetables does this Nakiri handle best?

This Nakiri excels with both soft and firm vegetables, offering clean, even cuts on tomatoes, onions, zucchini, potatoes, carrots, cabbage, and herbs. Its straight edge and tall blade make it especially efficient for high-volume prep and creating uniform slices.

What is the return or warranty policy for this knife?

Chef Supply Co stands by its products and all Chef Supply Co branded products are backed by our limited lifetime warranty. Products not branded Chef Supply Co only carry a 12 month warranty unless the otherwise advised by the manufacturer.

We cover any faults of materials or workmanship at our discretion.

Can this knife cut through bones or frozen foods?

We recommend using a cleaver or specialty knife for bones or frozen items. Using a standard kitchen knife may damage the blade.

Is this knife dishwasher-safe?

We recommend handwashing to protect the blade’s edge and maintain the handle’s integrity. Dishwashers can dull the blade and damage the handle over time.

How should I sharpen this knife?

You can use a whetstone, honing rod, or professional sharpener. Regular honing maintains the edge, while sharpening restores it when dull.

What’s the best way to store this knife?

Store it in a knife block, magnetic strip, blade guard, or sheath to keep the edge protected and prevent accidents.
